Ask a question about any subject, in any language, on whatever platform you choose to use, and the world wide web will be able to help you. I remember growing up with computers, leap readers, and the introductions of smartphone teaching me how to gather information for homework, school, and other questions in general. I found myself relating to Kenneth Goldsmith’s’ children often sitting on the couch texting and snapchatting while I also wanted to connect to people in real life.
The ability to choose your direction in learning and express yourself with a community that will support you in the form of blogs or youtube videos are all pros of an emerging cultural element known as the internet. The ability to have freedom to learn information from cultures across the world at the press of some buttons has never been seen before. This innovation has led to countless people across the world no matter race, sex, or education level being able to obtain information for the first time in history.
The idea that people are wasting time on the internet seem strange to me. Personally, I am on the internet while doing homework, watching sports, or reading for class. For example, I chose to buy all the books needed for this class online. This was done because I now have access to my books on multiple platforms such as my phone, my laptop, and other computers on campus.
While other people choose to use the internet to tweet, snap, and heart items. This is still a form of reading. It is reading being done on subjects from entertainment, politics, and social concerns. By doing this it allows for people to hone into subjects they are most interested in and allows for a deeper connection with the text.
