Saving the Internet

Growing up in this generation social media is changing the way we live our lives. I can honestly say I don’t remember the times before we had cellphones and laptops. I got my first phone when I was 14 and my life changed forever. Technology makes our lives easier in ways we can’t even imagine……or at least most of us.  After reading multiple posts about the pros and cons of the internet, we hear people talk about technology, the internet, social media and how this is affecting the youth or people in general negatively and I disagree. It makes sense when people say we can’t communicate with other people but in reality, we are communicating all the time now. Technology is advancing and everyone needs to advance with it. Communication has increased tremendously whether it be through text message, Instagram, snapchat, or any other social media platform. People are so scared to make changes and flow with them that they feel the need to tear down the internet for no reason other than “we don’t know how to use it”. Goldsmith makes a good argument saying, “I’ve never seen such a great wealth of concentration, focus, and engagement.” I think maybe if the older generation just gave the internet a chance they wouldn’t be complaining on it so much. Lindsay Saienni simply bashes these poets and fills her argument up with negative comments on how much she is insulted by the poets. It irritates me because while she is anti-internet she is also sitting in front of her computer or her phone typing her post out. Our society needs to learn how to accept technology and understand that phones are not ruining the world.
