Pro-Internet

Many people would say that the internet is destroying this generation; from scrolling through social media to DM’s, the internet seems to hold a bad reputation. But like any argument, there is always two sides. I believe that the internet has actually doing common good to this generation and generations to come. The internet is used in many different ways and improving as we grow to make life simpler. People would say that this generation are not reading, that you do not see people out in public with their face first into a book; now you see people face first into their phones; or that no one takes out a pen/pencil and paper and write anymore; that everyone uses their notes in their phone for everything, but Kenneth Goldsmith said, “We’re reading and writing more than we have in generation, but we are doing it differently–skimming, parsing, grazing, bookmarking, forwarding, and spamming language–in ways that aren’t yet recognized as literacy.” The internet is a very powerful and useful tool in this era. We act like we cannot live without the internet, phones, laptops, or tablets, and the first thing we all ask when we go to someone’s home is, “What is the Wifi password.” People cannot live without their phones because it might be their only outlet. There are also people claiming that we do not express our feelings enough because we are hiding behind our phones and need more face-to-face interaction, because this generation does not have “social skills.” R.M. Drake claims, “At least on social media, people want to expose how they’re feeling and things they’re going through and that’s what my writing does. It’s self-exploration and self-therapy.” I believe that the internet is a useful tool in this era, because when we are on social media just scrolling, we actually start clicking things that interest us and it may teach us about things that goes on in our world. The internet is NOT a waste of time, and it can be very useful and sort of an escape from the real world to another world in a sense.
