Lately, there has been some controversy about whether the Internet is taking over literature. Lindsay Saienni has expressed her feelings about the recently famous Instagram poets, such as R.M. Drake and r.H. Sin. Saienni argues that she is “insulted” by the fact that these Instagram poets are receiving so much attention, while she has put so much hard work and dedication into her poetry.
My stance with the situation is that I do agree with Saienni. I can see her frustration with these Instagram poets getting all the attention when she has put in so much more time and dedication than R.M. Drake and r.H. Sin have. It has been scientifically proven that Millennials only have an attention span of about 12 seconds. With that being said, it goes to prove that social media and the Internet are consuming not only our generation, but the future generations to come.

Johnathan Franzen, a novelist, spoke out about how he believes that no one will care about printed books in the coming years, which is true. There are already so many outlets to read books on an online platform such as Amazon Kindle, Audible, and Glose. Social media and the Internet are slowly taking over, and as more years come and go there will be less and less printed books.
