Unsurprisingly, there are people out there who are complaining that technology and the internet is ruining literature. Now, has technology “ruined” some things in this world? Possibly. But to say technology is “ruining” literature is pretty far-fetched. If anything, technology HELPS literature. Technology can be very helpful to authors, writers, poets, readers, etc.
Technology is only making literature much more accessible and easier to find exactly what you may be looking for as a reader. Whether it’s ordering a book or novel online, or just downloading it onto some sort of tablet or device. The online version of a specific book is the exact same as the hard copy of that book. Just because it isn’t a physical book that you can hold with your hands and turn the pages doesn’t change the writing nor makes the story any less valued. It’s the same thing, the same exact story, just different mediums.
So the results of literature becoming more accessible to the reader through technology, is that authors, poets, etc. are able to promote themselves and their work more than ever before. Whether it’s Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or any social media platform, authors can use these websites to help advertise their own work and to get their name out there to those who may not have heard of them. It also enables the readers to ‘follow’ them and to get to know the writers a little more than they may already have.
