The development of technology has increased rapidly within the past ten years alone. This has changed the way we communicate, study, and learn amongst other things. In a passage found in a blog by Purdue University, they acknowledge the changes in education. “…Because of the access to information and educational opportunity that technology has enabled, in many classrooms today we see the teacher’s role shifting to the “guide on the side” as students take more responsibility for their own learning using technology to gather relevant information.” (https://online.purdue.edu/blog/how-has-technology-changed-education). I think we are not far from a teacher based classroom becoming completely obsolete. Like in Maria Cecire’s novel “Massively Open” which is based around a school campus in the future that is completely online. At the rate in which technology is growing, I would not be surprised if the majority of the classroom setting is revolved around technology. Just in the past ten years I personally have seen the impact of technology in education. For example, the movement from chalk boards and white boards to projectors and even smartboards. I have seen the convenience and efficiency technology has in a classroom and I imagine that in the future it would only become more helpful with students and educators.
