*Ding Ding*

The teacher stops lecturing and turns to you so that she and the whole class can stare at you while you are scrambling through your bag trying to turn the ringer off. Finally you found it and quickly pushed down the small, slim button down until you feel the small vibration through your hands; but not enough in time because Ms. Mikey says, “Ms. Luster, Ms. Conwell’s office, NOW!”

Having your phone in class was a huge deal when I was younger. Phone usage was a rule in the handbook and some even got their phones taken away if was found with it. As years go by, technology advances and it starts to become a casualty in education. Technology has advanced to a point where now it is mandatory for students to have either a tablet or laptop in class, assignments need to be done or turned in online, and even classes are being taken online rather than in a regular class setting.

70%

“The portion of students who reported better grades, better attendance or improved creativity in newly designed active learning environments” (Mark Fehlandt, Hamline University).

Technology is advancing and becoming more regular to use in class because, in this generation, techonology is a common use like people wearing shoes. “Wesley had felt faintly cheered. Because they wanted him to get a book-reading gadget, and also becayse the applause suggested they id see him as Old School. Teachable Old School” (Stephen King, UR). If one do not know how or do not use any type of technical device then they are considered “Old” or “Tech-Friendly.”

In the future, technology will definitely change the school school system and how we work. Things like smartboards are advancing. Pre-schoolers will be learning how to use Ipads, phones, and laptops, instead of learning numbers and letters with a pencil and paper. Handwriting will not be a criteria anymore because everything will be typed. It is a little sad thinking about it. Even in my major they are transitioning from pencil and paper drating to computerized drafting. Eventually all classes will be about computer using and how to draft on technical devices instead of using pen/pencil and paper, and I do no think I am ready for that quite just yet. (I am “OLD” School)
