The Evolution of Education Through Technology

As time goes by, technology is becoming more and more heavily involved in education. One could definitely say that technology is even changing the way that we are taught and the way learn in school. Every scholastic year, it seems that there is some sort of new technology being implemented into schools. At this point in time, most people our age are used to the fact that technology is already being heavily used in schools. However, when comparing how much technology is used in schools today to as recent as 10 years ago, there is a huge difference. Technology in a 3rd grade classroom today, for example, is integrated much more than it was 10 years ago.

According to Technology in Education: An Overview, public schools are spending over $3 billion a year on digital content. It has gotten to the point that schools are providing each student personal Chrome Books for the whole school year. Also, chalk and dry erase boards are becoming more and more obsolete, because they are being replaced by interactive touch-screen Smartboards in most grade schools. Teachers are able to use this technology, to project digital media and websites from the internet, as well as show Powerpoints, pictures/videos, etc. Although those are just two examples, there’s more technology being used in grade schools that college students today haven’t experienced.

As time passes, it’s obvious that technology will continue to be more involved in education. It’s already nearly impossible to succeed in high school and college without access to the internet. There are even online universities where students can obtain a degree by taking ONLY online classes. Based on where we are now, we can only imagine how much more technology will be used in schools in 5, 10, 50 years, and so on.
