Old school education, we picture chalk screeching on blackboards, the sound of the teacher’s droning voice, and carrying your five-pound textbook to class every day. New school education now has a whole new image. When we think of education today, we think of online textbooks, PowerPoint presentations, and lots of online homework using websites such as Connect, Pearson, etc.

Maria Cecire’s Massively Open give us a create insight as to what the future could look like with both technology and education advancing together even more than it already has. Although there already are online universities, I would not want college to be like how it is depicted in Massively Open. Last semester, I took an online class and found that it was harder to make a connection with my teacher, peers, and to understand the assignments that had to be done. I think technology is a useful tool in school, but only in moderation. Tests and class discussions should always be in a classroom setting, but as for homework, papers, and important announcements, our online platform does most of these things effectively.
One thing that many students are benefitting from technology being combined with education is the fact that technology is providing many apps and interactive websites to allow students to study even further outside of classrooms. Quizlet, for example, is one of my favorite study tools. It is a website and also an app that allows users to create online flashcards and also have a variety of functions to study them such as writing, learning, and test taking form. This allows for different types of learning styles such as spatial, linguistic, and auditory.

If technology continues to make the educational advancements that it has, I can see our education system improving drastically. The future of education is looking bright, especially with all of the technological progression, students are becoming more interested in studying and learning. As long as robots don’t start teaching the classes, we should be fine.
