As previously discussed, current technology has changed the way we live and write. Cell phones and laptops have improved speed and accessibility of resources in social, professional, and educational aspects. In my day-to-day life I switch between my phone, laptop, and notebooks, depending on what I am doing. Most educational writing I do is on my laptop because it is easier, and most assignments are submitted online. An example of why I use my laptop for academic writing is the fact that I use copy and paste a lot. I will often copy and paste the assignment instructions so I can follow along. In fact, I am doing that right now!

My style depends on whether the writing is for school or just for me. If I want to remember something, note a thought I have, or just write something random down I either use my notes app on my phone or a journal/notebook. I have noticed in recent years the notes app on the iPhone has become a cultural trend. Personally, I use it for notes such as: lists, usernames and passwords, and different ideas I don’t want to forget or lose. I am a forgetful person, so if I write such things down on paper I might lose it, yet I always have my phone in my hand. Similar to notes, my text messages and online social communication is condensed and casual. Most people in today’s culture use the same style for their texts and social media interactions as I do, because it is quicker.
There are differences to style when using a laptop versus pen and paper. When I am writing on my laptop I use better grammar and more complete thoughts. However, when the writing is not academic or on paper, it is more sporadic and less organized. One difference I noticed is when I written with a pen and paper it is easier to be creative and writing flows differently. I think for me, it is the physical aspect of a writing utensil that makes me more creative. My goal in the future is to write more with pen and paper when I want to express myself through writing.
