Technology has definitely influenced and changed the way school is operated. As technology update, so does routines and policies within schools. Starting off my high school career, I was required to buy an iPad for class. We used it to communicate with teachers, view syllabi, complete classwork/homework, and to even take notes. It was mandatory to buy and use an app called Notability, where it was easy and manageable to take notes in a tech-way. In high school, I barely used a pen/pencil and paper unless it was a test. At that time, I enjoyed writing notes on my iPad because it was very efficient during that time, but as I grow and now I am in college. Things have changed…..
There are different things that influence the way I write and how I write. Both types of notes has different types of intention and purposes. In the typed note, I had to share it with my other classmates, therefore I typed it so they can actually read the notes, compared to the written notes; I can read my own handwriting. Another intention on how I typed the notes were based on the sentence structure. In the typed notes, It has a lot more details so they can understand what I wrote, than in the written notes, there’s a lot less detail because I wrote it more in “my language.” Also, in written notes I can write side notes like formulas, etc. that I would not be able to do in a typed note.
I had analyzed that I write differently accordingly to if there will be an audience present, what subject I am writing it for, and/or if I am prohibited to use technology in class. Now since I am in college, I honestly like writing my notes instead of typing. I don’t have to share my notes in my classes, so I can write in cryptic language, and when I do have my computer in class, I realize I get distracted easily. I rather not take any notes at all and just remember everything I hear, but that’s not possible.
