Separation of Writing and Typing.

Well, when I say the separation of writing and typing, I only mean that to a certain extent. Generally I would think it’s safe for me to say that overall the way that I write and the way that I type is fairly different. That is because when I am writing the chances are it’s for something more formal or school related, like taking notes or writing in my reading journal for example. Typically when I am typing however, chances are it’s for something more informal; such as texting, social media, and things of that nature.

Now of course, there are times where I have to type like I write. That would be for something school or job related though, especially if it is an essay, a class blog post, a resume, etc. Like how I am typing right now for this assignment is no where near the same way I’d be typing if I were to be texting a friend or tweeting something on Twitter. In the past, I used to be more conscientious of how I would type things on social media or through text messages, but I’ve kind of faded away from that the past couple months. Like instead of typing “you” I’ll just say “u,” or instead of “people” I’ll type “ppl” for short. You would never see me type that way on something job or school related though.

Even on class notes that are usually just for my eyes to see, I don’t use any slang or abbreviations that I would use in a text message. I also tend to be a little more “profane” when it comes to me typing a tweet or text message to my friends. So with all this being said, I wouldn’t say that the I say the Internet has changed the way I wrote at all when it comes to formal writing. It literally just boils down to what I’m writing about and what the writing is being done for. If I what I am doing is requiring me to be more proper, then I will write/type accordingly, and if what I am doing doesn’t require me to be formal and proper, then I will write/type much more freely and loosely.
