The evolution of the writing practices

Let’s take a trip down memory lane to when everything was normal, or what it used to be normal for the majority of us. In 2001, I began my first day of middle school. At the time I was a short chubby kid sitting down on my little desk with my notebook and pencil writing down simple stuff like basic mathematic problems and all sorts of things they teach in first grade. Middle school was different for me than it was for most of my peers, as I was living in Mexico at the time. At this point in time having a laptop was a mere luxury if that. The iPhone hadn’t been invented yet so the only option for phones were those indestructible Nokias that came with the snake game I used to love to play. Back then, sending messages was a hard thing to do since there were only 12 keys. Anyway, where I am trying to get to with this blog is to how the evolution practices have impacted everyone’s lives, at least those who were born before the 2000’s.

Before the invention of the smartphone everything used to be written, poems, notes, tests, but when 2007 arrived, so did the smartphones. Smartphones, like the iPhone created by Steve Jobs, revolutionized the way we communicate. Phone calls and text messages where much easier to do. As the years passed, the smartphones kept getting better and better. That was one part of the evolution of the writing practices, but notes, poems, books, and novels were still being written. When I came to the United States in high school, I had to adapt, from taking notes on a sheet of paper to writing stuff down on an iPad. My high school was sponsored by Apple so everyone was given an iPad for online books and notes. Amazon had come up with a kindle device and app which allowed the reader to access books online instead of hard copies, making it easier to accesses large amounts of information from your tablet. Mind blowing. Technology was moving forward at a very fast rate, and all of us had to adapt so we could keep up at least that was my case. So at this point it’s 2015, and everything is done electronically, shopping, note taking, tests(sometimes), books, novels, etc. As for me, I’m gonna share a picture with you that speaks about me and my journey through this new changes in technology that resulted in changes in myself.

This little guy is me, I was about 7 years old. Back then I used to play soccer for fun all day everyday with a bunch of friends from the neighborhood, it was honestly some of the best memories in my life. This was probably around the time the invented the smartphone, but I didn’t own a phone until I was 13. Now, I look at my little brother when he was my age he had an iPad, and video games that he was on pretty much all day, and I look at every other kid his age, and they are doing the same exact thing. It made me sad that toys, even though they still exist, are a thing of the mere past with kids wanting an xbox or the new iPhone for Christmas.

This generation are called millennials, and I am also one of them, but I’m glad I was able to experience a great childhood that created so many beautiful memories.
