The Styles Of Writing

Saturday, 7:35 am, wake up, check phone. Text from mom,

“Have a good day, I love you!”

I reply, “You too, I love you!”

Now, on to SnapChat. I have several notifications, most the casual, “Good morning,” some messages from conversations that I fell asleep during. I tend to do that, (oops). I tell my friends,

“Have a good day bitches <3,” with an assortment of emojis trailing behind.

Monday, 8:05 am, wake up, check phone. I have an email reply from one of my professors. I emailed my Psychology professor setting up an appointment to meet during her office hours.

“Hello Professor Storey. I have just submitted my online exam and I was wondering if we could meet during your office hours so I can go over the problems I missed and answered correctly. Thanks in advance, have a great weekend!”

Always more formal with instructors, but still casual considering I am a very casual person.

Tuesday, 3:15 pm, I open my laptop. I am in my room, typing a psychology paper. This writing is filled with scientific terms, numbers, and graphs of all kinds. Half of which I do not fully understand. Very formal, calculated sentences, no room for casual speak or messing around. One of the many reasons I hate typing research papers, I feel like an android, void of all emotion and individuality.

Thursday, 11:30 am, I am in my Cultural Anthropology class wishing I were anywhere else. I take a look at the board to copy down the terms from with presentation onto my notebook. The term written in bright green or pink ink, underlined, and maybe a little star or two for emphasis depending on the importance. The definition is written in basic black ink.

There are an infinite amount of writing and typing styles that one can use. Most people use dozens per day without giving it a second thought. This shows just how versatile humans can be when face with the task of writing. Whether it be communicating with others, taking notes, or even writing to one’s self.
