In this day and age, technology surrounds us on a daily basis. Due to these constant surroundings, technology is bound to influence the way humans do things on a daily basis. One of these large influences is in our writing as a whole. As I have progressed in school throughout the years, technology became more and more prevalent. At a certain point in 6thand 7thgrade it actually became a requirement to have a specific type of Apple MacBook computer so that the teachers could efficiently portray information to the students. Ultimately this turn towards electronics in scholarly settings largely influenced the way we, as students, read and write today.

On a day to day basis, I use technology a large amount in a scholarly way. If I hear an important bit of information that I feel I should remember for later, I will put it in a note on my phone. When I know I have certain deadlines or important dates, I will put them in my iPhone calendar with all the important information included with it. When sitting down and thinking about my ideal writing processes, I figured out I am very specific in how I take my notes or write certain pieces. My ideal space to write notes or an essay is in a quiet-ish room with as little distractions as possible. When I write essays, it is easiest for me to write them out in a Word document on my laptop. This is because as I write my essay, my computer autocorrects a lot of my misspellings, I can go back and add writing into parts I need to expand on, and I can easily google better synonyms for words I felt were too simple.

It is funny though, because the amount of time that I spend using my laptop or phone academically, I take most of my in-class notes on paper in a notebook. I feel that when I write things out on paper, I can better format, process, and remember the information better mentally. When I write on paper, it is a more permanent thing than writing on a Word document, because when I write on a paper I may be able to format it unique unlike on Word, but on Word I can always go back and edit and add information to a specific topic. Software, like Microsoft Word makes a big difference in certain types of writing, like essays, for me. Whereas plain notes on paper is more efficient in taking quick and efficient notes is best to me. Sitting down and thinking about my writing habits and practices just confirmed that I am very specific about how I write certain pieces and retain certain information.
