Writing of Today

The Internet has a major impact on how me and many others are writing today. We are no longer limited to the pen and paper writing but now it is more expanded to cell phones, computers, tablets, etc. Of course, I was born in 2000, so I have always been exposed to the Internet but it wasn’t as advanced as it is today. I wasn’t doing much writing other than on pencil and paper. I remember growing up, flip phones were in at the time. Typing on a flip phone was a complete HEADACHE. Talk about hitting the same key simultaneously until you get to the letter you need. That is when text slangs became a thing. Instead of typing “laughing out loud” it was quicker to say “lol” and instead of “talk to you later” it was quicker to say “ttyl”. Now, cell phones have become so advanced, there is no physical keyboard. Once you need to type, a temporary keyboard comes up allowing you to type at a quick pace. I like to use my cell phone for setting reminders for myself, research topics, and send texts. Since cell phones are portable, I can do so anytime convenient. All these are writing practices I do with my cell phone. I like to read long articles on my phone but prefer to write small amounts. This is because I feel limited on space (though the capacity is massive). I don’t want to write a load of stuff on my small device.

My phone writing is completely different than my computer writing. I tend to say less on my phone than my computer mainly because of the size of the two devices. I would rather save my thorough writing for my computer; where I feel is best to write a lot. I prefer to use my laptop for larger amounts of writing, like an essay, because I hate typing a lot with small text. I already have bad eyes, I’m not trying to make them any worse. But, using a computer for writing is beneficial for me because I have a physical keyboard and I can also open up a separate tab and do more research as to what I am writing about. It is a little less portable than a cell phone but still can be carried around and accessed anywhere.

Also my computer writing is different from my notebook writing because using pencil and paper, you want to write the important information, not everything. Your hands get tired and you can become scatterbrained trying to form your words on paper. Computer writing for me a lot of the times just flow. I still like to use my notebook and pens however to take notes. I find myself understanding more in depth when I have to actually write out the words and try to spell them correctly.

That being said, since Internet has came about, writing has become such an effortless thing. You don’t need much to start writing. It can be done anywhere at anytime.
