Computers vs. Phones: It Does Matter

Every time I have to send or type something formal, I use my laptop.  Every time I’m just talking socially to someone, I use my phone.  It’s that simple.  Emails, letters, and papers are all done on my laptop.  I have tried to type emails and take notes on my phone, but it just adds up to a jumbled mess that I end up deleting later and starting over on my laptop.  Using both devices does make a difference in the way that I talk or respond to someone.

When I’m texting my friends, they understand the slang that’s being used and don’t have to explain to them.  LOL, BRB, WYD, FML, they all understand these.  We can have real conversations while also being informal.  Now, older people that I know might not understand this, therefore I talk to them differently.  My parents for example, I have to type out the actual words instead of slang terms.  If I don’t they won’t understand it.  The same goes for other adults like my boss at work or sometimes teachers; even if I communicate to them through text, I have to be more formal with them.

Now if I were using my laptop for any of these things, it would also feel very unusual if I were to type anything as if I were on my phone.  It just has a different feel typing with an actual keyboard than with my touch phone, no matter who I’m communicating with or what form it’s in.  Using a computer vs. using my phone makes a world of difference in how I write.
