Throughout this study, I have found that I tend to speak to people differently depending on their ages. Although, I think that everyone would speak to their roommate in a way that they wouldn’t talk to their mother.

With my roommate, friends, classmates, and others my age, the primary method of communication is through texting, or (my personal favorite) sending each other memes through DMs. We send funny pictures and videos to each other several times a day because they remind us of each other or just to make each other laugh. While I sometimes send my mom memes (I don’t really think she has figured out how to send them to me yet), some people may find that a little odd and have a very traditional relationship with their mother. When I talk to my mom, it is usually very simple texts including “yes”, “no”, and “okay”. With my friends, I tend to speak in ALL CAPS if I’m very excited, or add a couple extra O’s to no or S’s to yes. I also tend to be a bit more vulgar, in person and in text, when I am conversing with my friends, something that I try to avoid doing around my mom. I have accidently sent her “oh sh*t” when I was trying to respond to texts quickly and did not realize it was her. She did not appreciate it and it truly was an oh sh*t moment.

In regards to traditional writing (paper and pencil/pen), I don’t use it as much as I used to. I used to exclusively write by hand in high school, but at UL, I found myself losing a lot of my notes, not having them with him when I needed them, or not being able to write as fast as I could type. So, my handwritten notes are usually short bullet points, while my typed notes tend to be long and drawn out conclusions.
