It’s Getting Freaky

The idea of sex and sexuality was very taboo in the generation before us. Most people did not have sex until marriage, but in today’s society everyone seems to be having sex. The internet has made the idea of sex easily accessible to everyone. Growing up, I was not educated by my school system about sex nor did my parents ever even bring it up to me. Sex was always just a big no no and if you did do it then you should go to confession immediately. At this point in my life I had to take matters into my own hands. I became educated through what my friends told me and through the internet. I saw romantic relationships on tv and movies but I never experienced that until I was older.

The app Wattpad introduced me to fanfiction when I was younger. This app has an abundance of books and fanfiction writings that may include sexual content. One of the books I read was After by imaginator1D or formally known as Anna Todd. This was a very popular fanfiction about Harry Styles and a girl named Tessa Young. They would sometimes have sex scenes in them and that is when I learned about my sexuality. These fan-fictions just seemed like a big no to my parents and I was scared to tell them I was reading them. I learned that sex is not as taboo as my parents claim it is and that it should be talked about more. I did not really take it to heart when I was reading the fanfictions because I knew if my mom found out I would get in trouble.

When the book Fifty Shades of Grey came out, I read an illegal version of it online. The book was very detailed and graphic and that is when I learned a lot more about sexual relationships. Our society today has normalized sex so much that there is no possible way that you aren’t educated by the time you are participating in it. You can easily look up on the internet all the questions you may have about sex. Parents should better educate their kids or they will be out here looking up fan fiction stories about one direction turning gay.
