Let’s take it back to Disney. Many people are unaware of how sexuality and hidden messages are exposed to them in Disney movies at a very young age, just like this article explains how we unaware that we are subconsciously consuming it to our thoughts simply by sitting in front of a TV and watching a Disney movie. Disney’s princesses interferes with young girls by implanting an image into their minds,that they should be thin, that they should be dressed up a certain way. It also demonstrates to young girls that they have to depend on or be rescued by men.
We are given information about sex through sex education classes that are provided by most schools. However, here in Louisiana we are only given the option of abstinence only. I remember when I was in my sex ed. class in 7th grade and how the instructor was mentioning about genitals, contraceptives such as pills and condom. They also showed us many graphic photos of people with STDs and telling us to wait to have sex when we are married. I thought at the moment that sex was an appalling idea. As I have gotten older my dynamics has changed. I learned information about sex about pleasure, and ways that I can protect myself, but the normality of the matter that there is nothing wrong with engaging in sex.
Now, in society we burden ourselves with unrealistic expectations to become “the image of perfection”. We see a lot of this through social media Some people put their body image above their own health to “fix” themselves in desperation to seek society’s approval. Even though, there is nothing wrong about looking or being different, and not having to depend on someone.
