The birds and the bees conversation is almost always a dreaded topic with parents. The sexual mysterious of the world often are often a big secret to kids who do not fully understand how they were conceived. Maybe the conversation comes up when they learn that “mommy” is pregnant with a new sibling . But as a child, why not use the resources around you? A computer or a phone to seek the relevant information. In a growing number of cases around the world, this curiosity leads to porn or pornagrphic imigary. This in turn leads to consequences fundamentally on how sex works, and how the other person should feel before, during and after sex.

Growing up I was told to always treat women with respect and to help them whenever you could. Yet as I surfed the internet and listened to music I always saw that the mainstream saw women as objects in many cases. For example one of the earliest hit songs that I really liked was “I got a feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas. Yet the sexual relationships between women and men are on totally different ends of the spectrum. In the first minute alone, we are exposed to women who are wearing short dresses, one in the shower naked, and yet another in lingerie. The women are visuaby more sexualy exposed than the men. While this intro is supposed to be portraying both sex getting ready for a night on town going to clubs and partying. At exactly 1:16 we see a man on a bike riding by a group of women who are skimpily clad, and he proceeds to slap the butt of one of the women as he rides by.

But after going out as a college student today, I realize this trend continues not only here in Lafayette, La but across the world. Men use the social “norms” of music and literature to justify how they interact with women. The internet has taught me to be wary of how we view women. Just because we are in the position to be dominant of women who may be intoxicated or vulnerable, we as men need to think before we act.
I think as a society we are starting to be more comfortable with talking with our children about sex. We are realizing how important it is that for our children to have access to porn we are influencing how they view women and sex in general. A article on the website Psychology Today explains how over 90% of children have admitted to watching or being exposed to porn at a young age. The article also states, “mature adults understand that sexuality is about more than just exchanging parts of your body .” They do this to help support the idea that children should not be exposed to porn at a young age because it influences how they view sex.
