Sex is definitely not an easy topic to talk about, yet it has lit up all over the internet like a wildfire. There’s millions of websites and apps that either show or give information about sex, and the rate they’re being looked up is unheard of. Sex has become a staple of modern society. It isn’t necessarily a private matter anymore, it’s a public matter, and online access is to blame for that notion.

Social media is one key component in the publicization of sex, whether one is portraying themselves to a specific gender or actually posting sexual content. With the amount of followers some people have on social media, they are literally making money to post themselves in some sexual nature. Instagram, Tumblr, Tinder, etc. are examples of apps that are used to show sexuality by some users, and in many cases market sex if the consumer is willing.
Online websites like Pornhub are available to anyone and can come either free or with a price, depending on what some people want to see and/or how much. This is how some people learn about sex, by watching what they look up and believing that a lot of the content is normal. And in many cases that’s true, but other times it’s far from it and can be quite irregular. Nevertheless, anyone can access this kind of content at any age really and “research” what they want to know.
Even television can’t stay away from the subject; in fact many shows have sexual relationships as the story line for certain episodes. Here’s a clip from “The Office” giving an example of sex within the workplace and how public and uncensored it can be, just like in today’s society.

Gone are the days of learning how to use a condom with a banana in sex ed classrooms. Anything you want to see, no matter how exposed or uncensored, is at the palm of your hands. Whether it’s social media or marketing websites, the availability of sex is no longer private or uncensored, and is a public matter that is viewed with much more regularity and less sensitivity than ever.
