You ever realized that we created a fucked up world and society that is a repetitive cycle that we cannot get out of. A society full of irrelevant, ignorant ass people who thinks their opinion, likes/dislikes, and life matter to the world. We base and compare our life on the internet and celebrities’ lifestyles, and don’t dare call them on it, because then you are hated by those irrelevant people I am talking about. In an interview with Carole Cadwalladr, Kobek said “I certainly think it’s been enormously detrimental to society.” The Internet is a huge tic in people’s lives that they cannot escape from or get cured from, because it is an important essential in their mind.

In Jarett Kobek’s novel, I Hate the Internet, we get a glimpse of Adeline’s life, the illustrator of the comic book, Trill, and how people take the internet too seriously, like Twitter. In the novel Kobek says that Adeline made “the one unforgivable mistake of the early Twenty-First Century,” and that was stating her opinion about the lies of Beyonce and Rihanna get on Youtube. Adeline gets death and rape threats all because she is a minority in the writing world, so therefore, no one cares of what she has to say because her opinion does not matter. Which is hypocritical because their opinions shouldn’t matter neither in society because they aren’t anyone relevant.

I Hate the Internet shows readers how cruel and ignorant this world can be when it comes to the internet. In Kobek’s novel, he shows his readers how ignorant the world is by way of going off topic and explaining obvious topics and words. By doing that, he is implying that he might be smarter than society because we waste our time and energy on the internet. Kobek also shows the repetitive cycle of being stuck in this internet-relying world by explaining at the end on how Adeline stills gets death-threats after three weeks of big mistake and the first threat she received in the beginning. This book was the best worst book I ever read and it was honestly “A Waste of Time,” due to his side-tracked mind stories, with no plot, or main characters. If you want to learn about how to get revenge on your bf/gf, learn about irrelevant ass topics, or just read a book that is very hard to read (waste your time), then I recommend this book 10/10.
