Jarrett Kobek’s novel “I Hate The Internet” is a novel that some would call “barely” a novel. This novel offers an obscene portrayal of how the current civilization is. Its content is merely filled with harsh sentences about how life currently uses. I personally did not enjoy this novel, and I can see why some people wouldn’t enjoy it either. It teaches us the crude truth about how harsh the world was back then and it is now. The novel opens up with the main character, 45 year old Adeline receiving rape and death threats on twitter which sets the tone on how the book was going to be.
The novel is describing the state of our civilization as it was talking to someone not originated from this world, kinda like a tourist review of a place you’re trying to visit as if it were telling the aliens “hey aliens this place is nice, but watch out there is a lot of sadness and harsh”. With sentences such as “the wars were giant parties for the ruling elites, who sometimes thought it might be great fun to make the poor kill each other” who are truth about our world, where every family is put in a social statues according to their income. The more money a family made, the more power, and influence that family had.
All in all this novel is not bad, although I can see why some would dislike it. Most people want to read about a nice story, not someone to tell them how this world is. If you like this type of novels, then I would recommend this novel, otherwise, stay away from it.
