I Hate The Internet is a novel written by Jarett Kobek that published in 2016. The story is about a girl named Adeline from Pasadena, California. Her and her friend, Jeremy, decide to start a comic series by the name of “Trill.” Trill is a fictional story about a cat with human emotions and traits. Due to the comic book industry being known for its racism and sexism, Adeline and Jeremy decide to do their work under false names. Everything is going well for them at first. Their true names are kept secret until someone accidentally leaked their names to the public at a press conference. Originally, nothing came bad out of their true names being revealed, that is until Adeline is giving a speech in front of a classroom where she gives some of her opinions on women in technology and even Rihanna and Beyoncé. Her opinions were very unpopular, especially among young people. As she was giving her speech, one of the students was recording her and posted it on YouTube, which led to her receiving a lot of bad backlash. This all led to her making a Twitter account to publicly defend and explain herself to those who tweet about her.

Personally, I already have enough trouble making myself read, and this book was definitely no exception. This book was awful, probably one of the worst books I’ve ever had to read and definitely by far my least favorite of the assigned novels for this semester. It was very hard to read and the fact that it was so boring definitely didn’t help. In Kobek’s defense though, even he admitted that this is a very bad novel… So at least he did it on “purpose” I suppose. This book constantly went off topic and he just had such a weird way of explaining things. I’m a big basketball fan, but I don’t think it takes being a fan of the game to notice that he had such a weird way of describing it. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this novel to anyone and I know that my peers would definitely agree.
