The book, “I Hate the Internet” was published by Jarett Kobek in 2016. The author uses the main character, Adeline, a comic book artist that expresses her thoughts and opinions in her work. In this novel there are a lot of controversial topics. These controversial topics comes from sexism, racism, hatred, and revenge. This book has revealed the deterioration of society and the internet and how corporations take advantage and make money off of consumers.
The author mentions about how people in society does not care about things that matter. Kobek believes that society had rejected the good novel. Instead, wanted to read about the “sexual rutting of supernatural creatures like werewolves, succubi, vampires, boy wizards, mermaids, minotaurs,” and etc. This leads to “the only solution to write bad novels that mimicked the computer network in its irrelevant and jagged presentation of content.”
Kobek mentions about how society has a way of revealing personal information about themselves on the internet. This can be through social media. This is a place where people go to rant about something that is going on in their life, to talk about controversial topics, or to ruin someone’s life. Corporations take part in making money off of this regardless of the effects that it has on the person.
