Where Is The Real?

When analyzing publications on the internet about yourself, there seems to be a common theme, highlights. The internet seems great at achieving just that, glances into a lifestyle that you want to portray. Instagram is the best example of “Highlighting” an individual’s life.

In both of these screen captures, the post is focused on a single moment in time where I am happy and thriving. These posts don’t show the hours that I stressed from crippling homework in classes, or the times when I felt more alone than ever but was still in a crowd of people.

The only place where you can begin to catch a glimpse into the reality of life is on my reddit. Here you can see me discuss my actual struggles I was going through socially. The only downside is my reddit is not attached to my name at any time before this blog post, not even through google data. I can only find this is my reddit because I have created and used it.

My Spotify account comes up when you google me as one of my top results. All of my playlists are public and one of the playlists even has 12 followers which was more than I anticipated. This shows a huge array of music I listen to and even some of the moods I was in at certain times.

Even Facebook has just a highlight real, and it’s my least used social media.

This Autodatography has shown how the internet has a very skewed vision into the realities of life. There is a true lack of struggles on the internet, where are my baggy eyes, my stretch marks, my late nights, my massive headaches, my pain, my sorrows.
