I am now a junior at UL and most of my family and close friends live about three hours away (im from Shreveport). This was hard when I first started college because I had never been this far away from family before, but thanks to social media I can stay in touch better. I have a facebook, instagram, groupme, and snapchat to help me keep close to the people I care about. These platforms are most of the ways that I keep in touch. For some of my less tech-savvy family we just call or text each other to stay in touch, or even mail each other things. This new age of social media platforms may cause many problems but it also brings people together. Because I do not get to go home often these platforms help me connect to my family better. When I was a freshman It would help me feel a little more at home even though im hours away from it. It also helps me stay in touch and plan things with my college friends and the different groups I am a member of like, band, work and even my dorm. Social media can bring people together even when they are hours or continents apart.
