Are millennials NAIVE when it comes to SEX?

All kids naturally grow up curious, especially when they hear the word ‘sex’.  What makes the introduction of sex to kids even more chaotic is that fact that it is 2019 and anything can be seen, watched, or read through the internet. I’m pretty sure every millennial has googled “how to kiss”. But would it be okay for a child to pre-maturely stumble upon “sex” through the internet? What if this is a more efficient method for kids to learn about sex as opposed to learning the old fashion way with your gym teacher in the school gym?

As a kid, growing up with the technology available definitely had an impact on how and when I learned about sex. I did not accidently stumble upon sex, as it was very much so intentionally typed in and googled at a fairly young age. (Keep in mind, I believe any age before 16 is in the red zone).  After glancing at my naïve search result, I quickly exited the website in complete shock. I remember being very confused as to what the hell I had just looked at. I was also scared shitless trying to figure out how to delete every possible connection to what the fuck I had just saw. It took me years to eventually process and understand what I had saw that day, and had a huge impact on me as a teen on what I perceived as sex. Keep in mind this was approximately 3 years prior to officially learning about sex in sex-ed.

Although sex-ed is taught in schools, it has got to be one of the world’s most inefficient methods of trying to spread awareness. This class contained no relevant information to what I now know as sex. The brief class discussed proper preventative methods for not having a baby and not getting the clap, that’s it! I remember heading to the class prior to sex-ed thinking to myself, “c’mon man, we already know what goes where”.

I soon realized that what was being taught was very boring and uninteresting, so I just laughed and made jokes with my friends about boobs. I had already figured out what sex was, and some, at this point in my life. And I wasn’t alone, the majority of my fellow students seemed to be as familiar with the topic as I was. It’s as if we all had access to porn on the internet!

So as time progresses and more teens grow up with more technology available, having the capabilities for sex to be easier to discover than it was for me as a kid is occurring. I believe kids are probably learning about it at earlier ages as time goes on. For some kids, this could potentially be a very negative life changing and brain scarring event. For example, some boy may discover what porn is at a very young age and believe all the things that he sees online is how it should be in real life. So he starts to compare sizes and from that point starts to live a very depressed, miserably virgin life. Although this example is farfetched and dramatic, this could still potentially happen.

Or in another scenario, the same boy may not be focused on size, as much as the techniques of how it starts. Porn consists of actors and actresses who rehearse and do this for a living, which is something that kids are far too distracted to realize. Little do they know, it is all staged Hollywood scenarios and very different than how it goes down in real life, for the most part. This boy could live a very misleading life, up until the virginity attempts to get lost and gets arrested because he tried to slap and spit on his girlfriend.

Another interesting fact about the correlation of sex education as technology advanced is that there are literally apps that can be downloaded to help you have sex. Tons of apps exist with goals to promote sex and create one night stands and hook ups. While this can be beneficial to some people, overall I believe has a negative impact on our life’s. Children especially, considering how easily assessable these provocative apps are to download. These apps only scratch the surface of all the inappropriate things that children could potentially witness. More regulation should be put in place for such things over the internet. In-fact, the only thing that should be accessible to kids relating to sex on the internet are only things that are beneficial to learn as kids. Avoiding anything potentially humorous or inappropriate to kids. Inappropriate things such as the endless positions, styles, and techniques of sex. For example, Christian Grey’s moves on Anastasia in his novel 50 Shades of Grey are far too inappropriate for a 13 year old child to grasp the idea of. Although things like this are inevitably learned, is should strictly be regulated and strived to be avoided and unseen by children until an appropriate age.
